Your First Gig Attendance

by pfirmin » Sun Feb 22, 2015 4:55 pm

I never went to any concerts in the 1960's or 70's, I didn't start going until the 80's. But I'm sure some of you went to see some very famous rock singers/bands from that time, so why not post and share your first gig experiences on here. I think my first live gig was to see Canadian Prog. rock band RUSH at Wembley Exhibition Centre in 1983.

The year was probably 1965 and I was in the Upper Sixth (Year 12)

A friend of mine said let's go to the Windsor Jazz & Blues Festival
If we go late on Sunday, we should be able to get in for free as it will be winding down

We arrived at about 9pm, late by sixties standards

The first group (band) that I saw was John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers
Not my thing at all but they did go on to become Sixties icons.
I was more into the charts - The Beetles, Cliff Richard, Elvis Presley, The Kinks, etc

The other band that I saw were very weird
As we arrived in the marquee the two guitar players walked off the stage :(
leaving the drummer banging away on his drums
for absolutely ages
Eventually the other two came back and the group played on
Little did I realise or appreciate that I was watching and listening to The Cream :o
whom I went on to love when I was at uni and beyond
but I never saw them live again.
What a wasted opportunity. :?
