Sense of Purpose

by Chiedu » Tue Mar 15, 2016 9:47 pm

Research has shown that people with a strong sense of purpose are 23% less likely to die prematurely of disease and have a 19% reduced chance of heart attack or stroke. This sense of purpose has been described by Life Style Science Sessions as having "meaning and direction and a feeling that life is worthwhile". Having a positive outlook on life has a huge impact on the body's cells and creates telomerase, an enzyme that helps maintain longevity of the body's cells. Cells die when levels of telomerase are low. Meditation has been found to naturally increase telomerase, improve immunity and lower stress levels.

Hi, Chiedu

I'm interested
by what you mean by a 'strong sense of purpose'
And how this can increase lifespan
as I can't see an immediate connection

Can you please go into a little more detail

Thanks

Very interesting Chiedu

I'm particularly interested to learn that there is a possible link between health and meditation
as that tends to indicate that the East got it right centuries before Western medicine arrived

Do you know if there is less illness in the East than the West?

That would be a real measure of the effectiveness of meditation

Chiedu,
Please tells us more about the research into the medical benefits of meditation.

I've been fascinated by the East for some time
and I'm old enough to remember the Beatles visiting the Maharishi to learn transcendental meditation
but it all just seemed a fad.

Is there any real research, other than hearsay, to support the benefits ?

Thank you
