£10 billion lost

by Andrew Krajewski » Fri Jan 16, 2015 9:43 pm

I was shocked to read the other day (Sunday Times 11.01.2015) that over £10 billion is sitting in
dormant Post, Office, bank and building society accounts, forgotten pensions, shares, Premium Bond prizes,
unclaimed inheritances, even over-payments to various (energy) companies, etc.

Some of that money could be yours, so think back ....

People change jobs, move house, re-marry, etc
Paperwork and contact is lost or details are forgotten.

You can bet that the companies holding your money aren't going to make any effort to find you.

My suggestion is that you make a list of all your financial assets.
Use the £10bn list above as a starting point and then when you're no longer around
your beneficiaries have an easy way of checking that everything you had and were due, is accounted for.

Similarly sit down with your parents and make a list with them
whilst they can still think back to their old jobs and financial affairs.

It will make the job of the executors far simpler and more importantly,
ensure that your beneficiaries get ALL that you have left to them.
